The goal is liberation for everyone, everywhere. But how do we get there?
I created small step, next step, liberation to provide a mini map of what the way forward might look like when we are working towards this common goal.
Small Step
Acknowledging public lands should be protected, not sold is a small step.
Next Step
Actively honoring the land and trying to protect it in any way you can is the next step.
Liberation
Working towards land back for all Indigenous people everywhere, restoration, and reparations is liberation.
Small Step
Recognizing empathy is important is a small step.
Next Step
Doing the shadow work, self care, grief and conflict resolution practices to embody empathy is the next step.
Liberation
Acknowledging the harm caused by hundreds of years of colonialism and knowing white folks will never truly be safe for people of the global majority in your lifetime but doing the work anyway is liberation.
Small Step
Marching, protesting, signing petitions, voting is a small step
Next Step
Recognizing that none of those is going to be very effective in freeing us is the next step.
Liberation
Being willing to risk something or be necessary uncomfy for things to really change is liberation.
Small Step
Wanting no interest on student loans is a small step.
Next Step
Wanting all education to be free is the next step.
Liberation
Knowing all education would be free if not for racism and the amount of money we spend on the military industrial complex & working to abolish both is liberation.
Small Step
Recognizing the injustice of what’s happening to Mahmoud Khalil and advocating for his freedom because he’s a legal citizen is a small step.
Next Step
Knowing that NO human is illegal and the carceral system (including ICE) exists to make money for the ruling class while creating infighting amongst the working class is the next step.
Liberation
Working to abolish the US colonial empire and the harm it has created all over the world while repairing the damage we’ve done, primarily in the global south, is liberation.
